I still can't get over the fact that CBS/Paramount actually LISTENED to the public and offered a replacement of the hacked out music from Season 2, Volume 1. I have to agree w/the complaints I read about them not putting the replacements out on retail, only allowing the exchange until September 1 and screwing over those who can't print out the online form.
However, they deserve to be commended on LISTENING to people & making amends. If they keep this up, maybe some other companies will step up & do the same. Glad to see CBS/Paramount CARES about its customers & knows who's in charge.

Burn on Demand--A Great New Alternative or Another Racket???
You decide. If you ask me, it looks like a racket. Why do I say that??
Consider the releases of "Hey Arnold" & "Doug". Each season of both is close to or more than $30 each for burn on demand. No guarantees that these DVDs are as good as the standard releases AND presumably, there's less work for the studio. Not to mention lack of competition as Amazon is the only place where they can be purchased. I won't even mention 2 best of "Rocko's Modern Life" sets being $20 a piece.
SCREW THIS!!!!!!! If it's supposed to be "cheaper" to release a show as burn on demand, why is the price per season the SAME as if it had been a standard release??? I smell a rip off. There's also the quality concern as expressed by some Home Theater Forum posters. I have to wonder whether some companies aren't just encouraging people to get bootlegs w/some of the asinine policies and downright foolhardy tactics in advertising releases and putting out sets. I actually LIKE these shows & would consider a full set of "Rocko's Modern Life" but not at these prices and w/the releases being iffy.

Altered Music Scores
Been busy as hell but this is one big issue that really deserves a "what the hell" reaming of a TV on DVD studio.
You see, we're not fans of The Fugitive or My Three Sons. HOWEVER, it kills me that CBS-Paramount has opted to screw over the fans of those shows by changing up the music scores & taking ZERO effort to do right by the consumer. Gee, why the hell should anyone bother buying from you, huh??? I saw some posts about this on Home Theater Forum just today & saw a corporate cheerleader who said "I don't care" & basically suggested that butchered to all heck product is better than nothing. Maybe it is for some of you sheeple but NOT for us. After all, we aren't sheeple; we have BRAINS & the intelligence to realize that were it not for consumers buying products, these companies wouldn't be in business today. I don't know of any bailouts being planned for THEM, after all. How could one even be justified?? At least we're not beholden to any of these companies or think we have to kiss THEIR butts to get something out. Nope, they should be kissing butt for consumers at large--remember who BUYS your product, buddy!!! Oh, and don't forget about the current recession.
What happened to releases like The Twilight Zone??? We're still watching our complete series set & happy to see the care put into it such as the inclusion of the bilboards. It also gives all the major studios a bad name & diminishes the TV-DVD market as a whole.

Lion's Gate Aquring Rights to Various Unfinished TV Shows
TV Shows on DVD announced this sometime yesterday:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Boy-Meets-World-Rights-Acquired/10252
They, along w/many sheeple, are thrilled w/this news. EVERYONE has seemed to forget Lion's Gate was responsible for the syndicated cuts of ALF:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/ALF/2067
Even TV Shows on DVD railed against them for doing that!! See why we're not big on how they act?? We know they have to be corporate cheerleaders to a point but they seem to have gotten to where they no longer hold studios accountable for their mis-deeds & outright misrepresentation to the public. (more applause for Sitcoms Online & HTF on this) Any reader on this blog should take any news of a Lion's Gate release w/a grain of salt. If they manage to redeem themselves by doing a proper job on these newly acquired properties, that's great. We'll be the first to say "bravo" to them. If not, don't say we didn't warn you. My inner cynic says they'll do the same thing they did w/ALF & have a very flimsy excuse.
Thank God nothing mentioned was a show WE want or we'd be even more upset.

A Big ol' FUCK YOU: Batman: The Complete Animated Series
Welcome to a new Column here (as if we had any old ones). You'll get the jist of it soon enough.
I like this set, really I do. Nice packaging, cool bonus booklet, and a big ol' FUCK YOU to those of us who supported the release by buying the sets as they were released. Now I don't want anyone to think I don't like the product; the product is fucking genius animation with pitch perfect writing (barring the second Robin of course...just as annoying as Jason Todd, without the likelihood of an appropriately grisly death scene). Nah, what gets to me is the offer of bonus material without also maybe offering a mail in option to those who already bought this.
Also, why not include the animated movies Mask of the Phantasm, Mystery of the Batwoman and Mr. Freeze Sub-Zero? That'd make it feel like a much more complete series.
Also, I'd appreciate an apology for the disillusionment in my childhood due to the scarcity of bat-villain action figures. I had twenty different Batmans and I had to fight sweaty collectible shop fatties for the one per every million Jokers.

Syndicated DVDs & Their Defenders
If we had to pick one issue we hate more than any, it's syndicated versions of television shows on DVD. This is the absolute deal breaker & a surefire way to avoid a sale from us.
However, the people defending syndicated cuts are worse!!! Take Mama's Family, for instance. Warner Bros. couldn't just start with the syndicated seasons, which were MORE popular than the early years, or bother TELLING the public they couldn't get network airings. Nope, they lied & then said "we won't release the rest unless you're willing to put up with syndicated Season 2". Luckily, I read a review on this the night before we were going to get it. After this, the Mama's Family website ENCOURAGED people to sign a petition to get the syndicated version out. What the HELL is wrong with you?!?!?!?!?!?!?
The thing that really sticks in our craw is that Warner's has put out some of the best TV-DVD releases. Their animation offerings are brilliant & the only time they'd put out cut material beforehand (to our knowledge) was in Adventures of Superman, forgivable since that show is from the 1950s & the original prints might not be available or salvageable. We can forgive syndie cuts of shows before 1980 since the prints might have degraded or there might not be anything better than a syndication version. After that, it's just inexcusable.
Case in point: ALF. We still refuse to get this since Lion's Gate showed ZERO concern for fans or remorse for A) putting out a syndie cut & B) not telling anyone. TV Shows On DVD even found this inexcusable & spoke out against Lion's Gate. We'd never trust them or Carsey Warner due to their bad reps on this issue (Carsey Warner gave out syndie cuts of Roseanne, The Cosby Show, A Different World & 3rd Rock From the Sun & has NEVER apologized or even OFFERED to do a re-release of the seasons they messed up).
There needs to be a law requiring studios to list when something is not the original network version & allowing consumers to return the item opened if it's indeed a syndicated cut. How would you know this information if you've not read a review & didn't watch for yourself?
Thank God for TV Shows on DVD, Home Theater Forum, Sitcoms Online reviews & Amazon.com reviews!!! At least you can be informed of this before spending money on shoddy merchandise; all readers should research things before buying them.
Oh, and in case you forgot the coporations exist because of US, the consumer. We DO NOT have to buy shoddy product, "support" releases by spending way too much money on something we don't want OR stand for being dicked over when they put out a complete series set after we bought all the season sets. The corporations will die if YOU stop buying the junk!!!!!!!!
This is today's rant but feel free to share your views & ask yourself what it says about these companies when you have to make damn sure you're not getting inferior product.
